Job Description:

Civil/Structural Senior Subject Matter Expert (SME)

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Civil/Structural Senior Subject Matter Expert to join a collaborative engineering team that provides structural, geotechnical, site development, stormwater, and risk management guidance across a portfolio of renewable energy and transmission projects. This role supports initiatives from early concept through commercial operation, ensuring designs are safe, constructible, and aligned with industry best practices.

As a key technical advisor, you will work closely with project managers, vendors, and third-party engineering firms to drive resolution of critical issues, support project financing, and promote continuous improvement. The position is based on-site in Juno Beach, FL, and requires occasional travel within North America.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide responsive structural and geotechnical engineering support for wind, solar, energy storage, clean fuels, substation, and transmission opportunities.
  • Lead design and constructability reviews, delivering timely, accurate feedback to maintain project schedules.
  • Drive resolution of critical execution-phase issues that could impact project budget or timeline.
  • Support project financing by ensuring technical comfort for Independent Engineers and Lenders, contributing to timely financial closings.
  • Define and influence project requirements and scope, including risk assessment and mitigation strategy development.
  • Champion best practices by maintaining standards, incorporating lessons learned, and facilitating knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • Coordinate with external engineering consultants and vendors, managing technical evaluations and non-conformance reviews.

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. or M.S. in Civil/Structural Engineering; P.E. license strongly preferred.
  • 5–7+ years of structural engineering experience, ideally within wind, solar, or battery energy storage (BESS) projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently review and redline structural design submittals, including foundations, steel, and concrete.
  • Proficiency in interpreting and applying national codes (IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, AISC) and renewable energy industry standards.
  • Skilled in checking structural analysis models and construction drawings for design adequacy and constructability.
  • Experience managing structural engineering deliverables using platforms such as Unifier, Bluebeam, and SharePoint.
  • Proven track record of leading vendor coordination and guiding third-party engineering firms with minimal oversight.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reporting technical assessments to project managers and SMEs.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and deadlines.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (no alcohol/drug-related offenses within the past five years).
  • Willingness to travel within North America (10–20% of time).

Preferred Skills

  • Understanding of geotechnical engineering principles and construction materials behavior.
  • Experience performing emerging technology due diligence and supporting annual specification reviews.
