Position Overview

Our client is a leading multidisciplinary consulting firm specializing in infrastructure, engineering, and cultural resource management. We are seeking an experienced and passionate Crew Lead (Archaeologist) to join our growing team. This is a direct-hire, full-time opportunity to lead archaeological fieldwork teams and contribute to significant infrastructure and cultural resource management projects across the United States.

About the Role

As a Crew Lead (Archaeologist), you will manage small field crews and conduct archaeological fieldwork, monitoring, and research. You'll play a critical role in executing Phase I and II archaeological surveys, archaeological monitoring during construction, and contributing to meaningful cultural resource preservation projects. This position offers hands-on leadership experience with strong mentorship from senior archaeologists and principal investigators.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage field crews through archaeological fieldwork to achieve project objectives
  • Conduct Phase I archaeological surveys to locate and identify archaeological sites
  • Perform archaeological monitoring during construction and pre-construction activities
  • Collect data and field samples during archaeological investigations
  • Analyze and document historic and prehistoric artifacts
  • Maintain detailed daily field notes and comprehensive fieldwork documentation
  • Schedule fieldwork logistics and coordinate with project teams
  • Instruct field crews on proper equipment use, technology, and field methodologies
  • Contribute to archaeological report writing and site form preparation
  • Perform site mapping using appropriate surveying tools and methodologies
  • Maintain and repair field equipment and gear
  • Lead team members through constructive feedback, goal-setting, 1:1 meetings, and professional development coaching

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of professional experience in archaeological fieldwork roles
  • Bachelor's degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field
  • Completion of an accredited archaeological field school
  • Hands-on experience with CRM-based Phase I, II, and/or III survey and excavation projects
